So Rammstein is out with a new clip called Pussy

http://www.rocktube.us/index.php?module=content&id=adlcRffweae

The romanian opinions are half-half,some called it art and some called it "porno-stuff calling out for publicity".
What's your opinion about ''Pussy"?

I saw this and was DISGUSTED! I think it is degrading to women and just plain revolting.

The lyrics say "I can't get laid in Germany" or something like that - I'm not surprised! It's just bad, really, really bad. No

You're missing Rammstein's point entirely, CanuckFan. They are playing with the mechanisms of the media and their lust for sensation, and exposing the foolishness of the taboos especially of the US society (real violence is fine, female breasts on TV are off-limits). I mean there were men in the video too, not just women - I can't see it as being particularly degrading for any one group. Sure, it is terribly gross, tasteless and offensive (unless for a mentally adult person, who should know better than to be offended at a silly music video) for a LOT of reasons, and that's what I love about it. Rammstein love stirring up attention, but it only works because the public and the media play along.

I loved the part with the speech. Our media savvy politicians, especially US politicians, have learned a LOT from Hitler, like how to put on a good show and manipulate the media and the public.

I like Rammstein's attitude. "I don't give a fuck if you hate me!" Oops, wrong band. Great sense of humour, anyway. Many of their lyrics feature clever puns and double entendres. I'm not a huge fan of their music (it's OK, but really really simple, if admittedly very effective), but I think they're cool and I respect them as artists who keep pushing the envelope.

I wonder what Tarja thinks about the video - I know she's a big fan. Wink (She's a free thinker as far as I can tell and is said to have a wicked sense of humour, so I'm not really surprised, even though being a Rammstein fan doesn't really fit her image.)

She probably liked it. You're right though, her image isn't that of Rammsteins at all. I don't care for overly simplistic music like Rammstein. I'm a melodic kind of guy. Cool

This song seems CLEARLY geared to the American market, what with the English parts and all the German words also known in America. Discerning music listeners like us are not the target audience anyway.

The lyrics are so horribly bad that they're good, and just a little bit catchy too. (But I like Till's voice, so I suppose he could sing the stupidest thing in the world and it wouldn't bother me.)

As for the video, I think it's absolute genius. I agree with what Almagest has said.

I would venture out and say that for a North American audience, the video would be absolutely disgusting and tasteless, and a little less so for a more European audience. I realize that that's a very broad generalization to make, and obviously is not going to be representative of everyone in a said country's point of view, but I think it's an alright generalization to make.
I was speaking to one of my Finnish friends about the video and even he laughed about how much controversy a video like this could potentially cause in Canada or the US. I think people are either going to be one of three ways, depending on their background. They're going to think the video is verging on brilliant, they're going to completely ignore as being another set of tits and another penis, or they're going to be appalled.

For my own opinion, I also don't believe that the video is demoralizing towards women. There are plenty of women in the fetish community and otherwise who are willing participants and no doubt enjoy some of the things depicted in the video. Going slightly off topic, how many women either fantasize about sleeping with the 'characters' depicted in the video, or with a member of a certain band or bands? From my point of view, it works both ways.

That being said, I quite enjoyed the video. lol!

I think our North American values may be affecting how we feel about this video. Perhaps reignofterror is right about that, now that I think about it. Europeans may be able to stomach it better than we can. Laughing

^ I'm not European (I'm actually Canadian), but I think I have more of a European mindset towards a lot of things. I've never totally agreed (and have often disagreed) with a lot of the general attitudes of the majority of North American people. Actually I find it refreshing to talk to people from different parts of Europe about (for example) Rammstein's video.

I hope I'm not a horrible person for thinking "this is awesome!" when watching that video. lol!

No, no not at all. I am just really, really PERSONALLY uncomfortable with graphic sexuality depicted on film. Let's just say I have some overriding issues that I don't want to go into on a forum, and leave it at that, OK?

I get that there are other perspectives and I'm certainly not judging you for yours!

Yeah, I was totally joking.

I'm not judging you by your perspective either.
After all, life wouldn't be so interesting if people had the same perspectives on everything. Smile

Also, perhaps this isn't the right place to ask this, but does anyone have any links to any interviews surrounding this video? I'm horrible for wanting to know answers to random questions that really don't matter. Plus, it might be interesting to get the band's perspective on the video, or how/why they decided to do exactly as they did.

I didn't like that he doesn't roll the R in English, as well.

Well, many North Americans may pretend to be disgusted, but given all their repressed sexuality ... tongue

So yes, I think the video is all about making people die of curiosity.

(I should have known from your avatar, it turns me on somehow.)

I know quite a lot of people who are VERY liberated, sexually. BDSM, fetishism and other deviant desires are still strongly controversial even here, but in fact many of them are incredibly harmless and playful, and actually rather common in people's fantasies, I suspect. I can even empathise with some rather weird and outlandish turn-ons. Exoticism in eroticism is fascinating.

I'm repeating my above point here, but I bet quite some people enjoyed it, but would rather bite their tongue off than admit it. tongue

Nothing against you, CanuckFan, of course! I understand that personal emotional traumas are heavy stuff. I really appreciate that you can separate this from aesthetic and moral issues, though. Most people seem unable to do this.

I can ask friends who are big R+ fans for background info.

BTW, do you understand German?

Speaking of double entendres, you guys should google "cute chick with a nice pussy". lol!

I suppose that's part of pronouncing english words 'correctly', but I guess I'm with you in the fact that it would sound better if he did roll the R's.
Then again, I like the sound of a rolled R, no matter what language is being spoken. I attempt to do it when I'm trying to speak Finnish or as I'm learning Swedish, but it's really just an imitation as I don't think I'd ever be able to roll an R like a native speaker of a language that uses this.

Ah, you're a damn perv... I mean freethinker!

Well, perhaps, but then again being a little bit of a perv never hurt anyone when acted upon in the right situation. Smile

As I also know quite a few people who are interested in this, I can say the idea fascinates me. I doubt I'd ever become actively involved in a BDSM/fetish community myself, but I do enjoy listening to the viewpoints of people who are involved. I guess curious is the right word to describe myself. Like you said, many people probably have deviant fantasies hidden somewhere away in their psyche, it's all a matter of who decides to act upon them and whether they find other people who enjoy the same things.

BTW, do you understand German?

Nope.
I wish I knew a little bit though. I can never hurt to have some understanding of other languages.

If you don't know German, can you still make sense out of the lyrics? Perhaps those of "Pussy", but Rammstein's lyrics in general often feature untranslatable puns.

This is getting off topic, but do you know Deviant Desires? I haven't read the book itself, only know the website, but it seems to do a very good job to help people getting rid of the feeling of disgust or shame regarding unusual (or merely tabooed) sexual preferences and explain how sexuality and eroticism is more of a popular form of art than a sacred rite. People just need to stop to take sexuality so damn seriously.

Some of Rammstein's lyrics I can make a little sense of because I have a few friends who speak enough German to get the general idea. I have no doubt I miss out on all the puns.

When I was speaking of the lyrics for 'Pussy' being so bad that they were good, I should have specified the lyrics that are in english. My bad.

I see. Smile Anyone who knows Rammstein well enough must be aware that the guys are clever and that the lyrics are intentionally primitive, of course.

As for different languages: The Russian sentences in "Moskau" are not at all random either. When you include them, additional layers of meaning are revealed.
