Re: Pictures of Finland
Ah......I have pix from 13 years ago when I was there, but not many. This was pre-digital camera. I was 5 days in Helsinki, I was sick, exhausted from the previous two months of backpacking (some of it through Scandinavia and I couldn't sleep properly there because of the long days) and I couldn't be bothered buying film. But I do have a small handful I might scan & post here when I get the time.

Re: Pictures of Finland
It reminds me of where I'm from. Actually, when I was in Finland, I was reminded a lot of Canada.

This is not the first time I've heard about the similarity between Finland and Canada. There is one other thing too...both nations are insane about hockey
Re: Pictures of Finland
Hockey, hellz yes! A lot of Finns that have seen my pictures in my state and around my home have told me it reminds them a lot of Finland. We are country/nature people too. Lots of lakes, mountains and forests.

Well, that, too. I am personally not insane about hockey, though I don't mind it.
But when I was in Helsinki many years ago, there were also other similarities. The landscape was certainly one of them, which I really found when I went out into the countryside. Though Finland is a lot flatter than British Columbia, where I live, there are similar forests, lakes, and streams...It really was like being in BC.
But you know, the interesting thing was the proximity to a HUGE world super power - Russia in the case of Finland, and the USA over here. It's a very subtle thing I can't quite describe, but that I have not had this feeling anywhere else I've been. It was really apparent at the guesthouse we stayed at because there were a lot of people there on their way to Russia, including some kind of diplomat. There was definitely this sense of a....hmmm..."sleeping giant" living right on the doorstep. It's hard to explain.

Re: Pictures of Finland
LOL
indeed, Finland is very similar to Canada, i was stunned about similarities in people and not only. They call Finland the "Canada of Europe" so i guess many people have seen the resemblance.
