Man it would have been so cool to attend Wacken this year. Outstanding amount of bands there but the band I will miss the most is Nevermore...shit.

I'm still not properly decided wether I'll go or not. Would be cool to have some company for the journey, but heck, plans were changed so I guess I'll have to be a lone wolf this year

ooohhh yeaaaaaas.....
i'm so impatient when it comes to the W:O:A, i've been -and still are- waiting since last year for the next one
only sad thing is: Tusias in the W.E.T Stage tent... thats just too small and unworthy for this awesome band!

Re: Wacken OpenAir 09
Back from Wacken. It was a blast.
Turisas were on the small W.E.T. stage indeed, but let me tell you that they put up a great show. The place was packed with people and the audience was amazing. Everyone, from front to back row were clapping and cheering and singing and partying, I bet the guys felt awesome on stage looking down at the crowd. I think the atmosphere lifted them up as well, as there was so much energy in their performance it was really wow.
Pain were one of my most awaited bands at Wacken. They were on Party stage, but also had a huge audience, which I think they deserve.
As to the rest, I think Wacken grew a bit too big now, it's 70.000 people and it's a too huge crowd for the festival area. If you came too late, it was impossible to enter the festival area for the headliners. But otherwise, pretty damn well organised and all. Next year I'm most likely there too.

We need festivals like this over here in Canada! I feel like I'm missing out on a hell of a lot of stuff!

What were headliners for you? In Flames? Motörhead?
On both I first saw other concerts and joined them later. It was no problem to see the show, 'cause you always can press forward.

Re: Wacken OpenAir 09
My Headliner was definately Machine Head, it sure was loud as hell, but worth every second.
Motörhead was nice too, but i couldnt really enjoy the music because i was drunk, crowdsurfing and lost my gf in the crowd just before the show began.
The finnish Bands... well.... Turisas was awesome! Even though they were in that (quote) "ridiculous tent" (end quote). But everyone in that tent was celebrating them like the "biggest" bands on the festival - i hope the staff noticed that this time.
Korpiklaani, which i was really looking forward to, was playing on the so called Party Stage... and i guess it had a sound problem or something. I noticed the same thing during DragonForce as well. Like they put the Marshalls on a turntable and they're periodically turning away from you, then facing you again.... or someone you're talking to is moving away from you, and then again getting closer.... really annoying and they didn't fix it the whole 3 days. Really disappointing...
My overall opinion is positive, it was worth the time and money i spent there. But the festival staff should really think about doing something against that moneymaking behavior and all those metal-tourists who just want to party there but don't really listen or live to metal.
yesterday i saw in a german tv show, that they sent two "it girls" to wacken and filmed it, it came really close to the most stupid thing i've ever seen... and it sure doesnt help the festival getting to its roots again....

As far as I know: They knew, it. But is was not possible because of other bands.
I don't know about sound problems, 'cause other bands on that stage were pretty cool like Dragonforce and Epica. But: I was also looking foraward seeing Korpiklaani, but I left the crows after 3 or 4 songs, because it was just boring^^makko wrote:

Totally agree. But how can you separate? There are many maggots anyway and I think that's the main reason why I prefer a small local openair with a black/death metal layout and a longer hair-lenght-average xD :cheers:makko wrote:
